CIPORT – Kick-off Meeting

The CIPORT action, co-funded by CEF and coordinated by PPA, kicked-off last week on 16/12/2021 promising concrete results in the final steps of OPS implementation in Piraeus Port. The studies and engineering designs to serve the cruise sector at Themistoklis coast have just started! Looking forward to the implementation!

ALFION – 4th Project Meeting

4th Technical Meeting of the @ALFION project, hosted by HEDNO/DEDDIE on 15/10/2021. HEDNO CEO Mr Anastasios Manos and OLIG CEO Mr Athanasios Porfyris addressed the importance of the project introducing a holistic port sustainability approach to be further adopted by other ports. The project is co-funded by the CEF programme and implemented by the Port Authority of Igoumenitsa in cooperation with #HEDNO/DEDDIE, #Laboratory for Maritime Transport, NTUA and the companies #PROTASIS and #HYDRUS. Approval of CIPORT project under CEF program

Continuously working to transform Piraeus Port into an efficient and environmentally friendly Green Port. The EU funded project, recently approved by the CEF funding program, is a large project studying the electrification of berthing positions for cruise vessels. The project will provide the necessary studies to enable the extension of the οn-shore power supply to an additional four positions serving cruise ships.
The action is implemented jointly by #HEDNO/DEDDIE, #LaboratoryforMaritimeTransport-NTUA, #PROTASIS, #HYDRUS, and #GATES.

Η εταιρία GATES Ltd αναζητά ένα (1) άτομο ειδικότητας Μηχανικού, για παροχή έργου στο πλαίσιο της υλοποίησης του συγχρηματοδοτούμενου έργου «CIPORT – Cold ironing in the Port of Piraeus – Taking the Final Step» του προγράμματος «Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)».

Το έργο CIPORT επικεντρώνεται στην μείωση του περιβαλλοντικού αποτυπώματος και την βελτιστοποίηση λειτουργίας του λιμένα Πειραιά μέσω της εκπόνησης σειράς τεχνικών, περιβαλλοντικών και κοινωνικοοικονομικών μελετών για την ηλεκτροδότηση πλοίων δια ξηράς στο τμήμα εξυπηρέτησης κρουαζιέρας. Η εταιρία GATES Ltd,  ως εταίρος της κοινοπραξίας, συμμετέχει στην εκπόνηση συγκεκριμένων δραστηριοτήτων του έργου.

Τα απαιτούμενα προσόντα του Υποψηφίου ορίζονται ως εξής:

  • Πτυχίο μηχανικού ΑΕΙ
  • Άριστη γνώση αγγλικής γλώσσας
  • Γνώσεις χρήσης εργαλείων Η/Υ (επεξεργασίας κειμένων, υπολογιστικών φύλλων, παρουσιάσεων, βάσεων δεδομένων, εφαρμογών διαδικτύου)
  • Εργασιακή εμπειρία στην υλοποίηση ερευνητικών προγραμμάτων με κύριο επιστημονικό αντικείμενο σε μεταφορικά συστήματα

Η διάρκεια σύμβασης έργου είναι από 01/10/2021 εώς 31/10/2023. Σε περίπτωση παράτασης του συγχρηματοδοτούμενου έργου, η σύμβαση δύναται να παραταθεί χωρίς περιορισμό και χωρίς τη διενέργεια νέας Πρόσκλησης, μέχρι την νέα ημερομηνία λήξης του έργου. Η αμοιβή θα καταβάλλεται με Τιμολόγιο Παροχής Υπηρεσιών.

Job Position for an Engineer

GATES Ltd is seeking one (1) Engineer, to join the team for the implementation of the co-financed project “CIPORT – Cold ironing in the Port of Piraeus – Taking the Final Step” of the “Connecting Europe Facility (CEF)” program.

The CIPORT project focuses on reducing the environmental footprint and optimizing the operation of the port of Piraeus through the elaboration of a series of technical, environmental and socioeconomic studies for shore-side electricity in the cruise service terminal. GATES Ltd, as a partner of the consortium, is involved in the elaboration of specific activities of the project.

The Applicant’s qualification requirements are as follows:

  • Degree in engineering
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Knowledge of PC programes (word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, databases, web applications)
  • Working experience in the implementation of research programs with a principal scientific object in transport systems

The duration of the project contract is from 01/10/2021 to 31/10/2023. In the case of an extension of the co-financed project, the contract may be extended without restrictions until the new end date of the project. The applicant should be able to provide a Service Provider Invoice.

MUTIAPPRO – ITN meetings

The 6th ITN meeting of MultiAPPRO project was organized online on 20th October 2020. This meeting gathered 28 participants, MultiAPPRO partners and experts in different fields, and it allowed the consortium to have a fruitful discussion according to their experience and knowledge on the subject of Green Deal priorities of European Comission.

The objective of the 6th ITN meeting is sustainable transport in the sense of social, environmental and climate impacts. Thematic area of the meeting focused on the priorities set by the Green Deal Strategy of the European Commission with special focus on Intermodal Sustainable Transport. With round table discussion consortium tried to identify opportunities and priorities of each entity’s operations that can fall under the Green Deal strategy.

The establishment of the Intermodal Transport Network is one of the three main outputs of MultiAPPRO project and it is a main tool used for transnational networking, with the aim to support the development of an environmentally friendly and sustainable intermodal transport in the region. GATES is the moderator of the ITN.

In line with the above, the topics from the previous ITN meetings:

1st ITN Impact of Transport Infrastructure on Intermodality, Intermodality and its significance

2nd ITN Environment protection, use of alternative fuels, “green” upgrade of infrastructure

3rd ITN Intelligent Transport Systems

4th ITN Safety in Intermodal Transport Network

This 6th ITN meeting was an opportunity to make a contribution to the improvement of intermodal transport in the Adriatic – Ionian region as all ITN meetings covered many aspects of intermodal transport.

GREEN C PORTS project wins the IAPH World Port…

The GREEN C PORTS project, co-financed by the CEF programme of the European Union has been awarded the 2020 World Port Sustainability Award of the International Association of Ports and Harbors (IAPH) – in the category of “Resilient Infrastructure”.

The award ceremony was held online on June 24 and counted with numerous participants from various ports around world, representatives from Green C Ports consortium and from INEA (European Commission). Antonio Torregrosa, Managing Director of the Fundación Valenciaport, has virtually collected the project’s award. Antonio Torregrosa described the objectives of the project and the importance of the technologies used in it to reduce traffic congestion, improve air quality, reduce noise levels, forecast crane productivity and measure emissions in real time at the ports of Venice, Piraeus, Bremerhaven, Wilhelmshaven and Valencia.

Dirk Beckers, Director of INEA and managing the EU grant, stated: “It makes me extremely proud that a project supported by the Connecting Europe Facility is being recognised for its excellence and has been selected to receive such a prestigious award. Transport sustainability is one of the priorities of the European Commission and INEA will continue to support projects with this objective in the future to ensure the transition towards a zero-emission transport sector”.

Moreover, the message from Patrick Verhoeven, Managing Director of IAPH, to the winner was: “You set the bar in the implementation in practice of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations in ports. We hope that many other ports in the world will be inspired by your initiatives. On behalf of all of us at the IAPH and the World Ports Sustainability Program: kind regards, take care and we hope to celebrate your successes in the future.”

The project is reaping the rewards of the joint effort from the whole consortium and with the support from the European Commission in building a very innovative project towards the support of ports’ environmental sustainability.

GREEN-C PORTS – General Assembly

On the 16th of June, the Green C Ports partners have organized a virtual General Assembly to share the progress in the project and to plan the next steps towards a successful completion of the project’s tasks.

In this case, it was the 2nd Plenary Meeting after the Kick-Off meeting celebrated in Valencia. This virtual meeting was organized as an alternative to the physical meeting originally planned in Venice. Due to global lockdown caused by COVID19, the face to face meeting was not possible.

The meeting had 5 hours of duration and it was divided into two sessions: one in the morning and one in the afternoon. In the morning session, the general progress in Activity 1 was presented. Each partner could present its ongoing progress and the work done in tasks T1.2, T1.3 and T1.4. In the afternoon session, an open discussion about Activity 2 was carried out by the partners too.
